Some of you may have come come to camp before and never realized that we have a Trout Raceway that had around 2,200 wild brook trout in it!

In it we raise the trout from the time the are fingerlings (a couple inches long) until they are ready to be released as adults (8-10 inches long). The raceway provides us with a great opportunity to work with the Department of Natural Resources and a local fishing club and the ability to teach and show camp visitors some of the wonders of God’s creation.

As the title of this post suggests, yesterday was the big day that we released the trout into local streams and rivers. Other than the DNR, and a few guys from the local fishing club, we were also joined by a group of young homeschoolers who were able to watch the event first-hand. It is always an exciting experience to see the fish swim off on their own, and find little places to hide. And just in case you weren’t able to see the trout this spring, we left a few in the raceway until we get the next batch of fingerlings in mid-summer. =)
