When this year’s family campers came down into the valley, they were reminded to be “built on the rock”–to build a strong foundation on Christ and to strengthen relationships with each other in the process.
Each week campers have been learning about God, who is the Cornerstone and how to align their lives with Jesus. However, it can be easy to think that once a house is built on the rock, it will never be challenged. But in the parable of the builders in Matthew 7, the storms still blew and beat against the house on the rock. In the Christian life, there will be storms and trials. That is why it is important to continually be investing in a relationship with God, making sure to align with the Cornerstone; and in the process, families are drawn closer to one another.
A couple of these families shared what their experience was like at camp this year:
Family Camp II
THE BLOK FAMILY
What were your first impressions of camp? (OR) What keeps you coming back to camp?
– Biblically based, Bible teaching, creation education that feeds our family spiritually. We love the camp location and facility.
– The staff are phenomenal, friendly, encouraging and caring. They are truly servants of Jesus, and it shows in their daily interactions with each other and the campers.
– The intimate size of the camp, everyone gets to know each other well, and build lifelong relationships.
– The cabins are so nice (AC / Heat / Bathrooms). – the Blok Family Way to go “camping”.
– The grounds are well kept and SO BEAUTIFUL.
What is something new you learned?
– This time we attended, we learned some practical methods to raising our children for a life of service to Jesus.
– We also learned some neat things on the daily activities, like about panning for gold, and shaping rocks into jewelry or nightlights.
– Claire loved archery and enjoyed the experience of learning for the first time.
Highlight of the week?
– Kid Kaddy (Charlotte) – She took A LOT of the stress off and made us available to join in activities and actually eat the meals at the same time as the kids. We even got to stay out late playing games! All of our children adored her, and loved getting the attention from a “cool teen”.
– The two hour class time was great, we felt spoiled having treats provided, and having such amazing teachers who have walked in our shoes before us and offered Biblical suggestions in a humble way.
Did anyone try anything new during camp?
– Claire tried Archery, and loved it.
– Several of us had never panned for gold before, that too was interesting
– We also never worked with stones before, it was fun learning the tools and seeing the stones slowly take shape.
– Pudgy Pies!
– First time having our entire family of 7 sleeping in the same room!
Any way in which your family was changed as a result of being at camp?
I believe it has encouraged Deneall and I to spend more time in the Word, and creating a plan, and being more proactive in our spiritual training.
Would you recommend family camp to others?
YES, and we have, and will continue to do so! WARNING.. We’ve told a lot of people, and a lot of them are interested in coming!!!
Anything else you would like to add about your time at camp?
We could have stayed longer… like a day or month.
Family Camp I
THE HEGE FAMILY
What were your first impressions of camp? (OR) What keeps you coming back to camp?
This was our 2nd year attending family camp and we’ve also attended several other events: ladie’s retreat, father-son retreat and the marriage retreat. We are just humbled and blessed beyond measure to have found such a God honoring, Christ focused, Biblically strong, applicable to all ages of our family, family focused, loving, peaceful, servant hearted atmosphere at LWBC… that is truly what keeps us coming back. Also, we never cease to be amazed at how unique, creative, engaging and meaningful the programs always are!
What is something new you learned?
This year our kids learned some really fun & applicable lessons about rocks pertaining to them individually building their lives on the solid rock of Christ and as parents we gained a lot of great wisdom on better parenting each of our children.
Highlight of the week?
We loved the family devotion times…. the singing, laughter, teaching… our kids cannot stop singing all of the songs they learned… as almost all of my kids would say when we’ve asked them what their favorite part of camp was… EVERYTHING!
Did anyone try anything new during camp?
Panning for gold was really fun & interesting for all of us.
Any way in which your family was changed as a result of being at camp?
We were refreshed and encouraged to press on in continuing to build our family on the firm, solid, unmovable rock of Jesus! We love that family camp affirms to our kids the things they are already being taught at home and we love the marriage and/or parenting teaching for adults.
Would you recommend family camp to others?
ABSOLUTELY!
Anything else you would like to add about your time at camp?
Thanks SO VERY MUCH to everyone who works tirelessly at camp to love & serve each family and each person… you are a powerful testimony for Jesus to each camper who has the privilege to attend camp. The kids all say they can’t wait until family camp next year!
Mark your calendars for July 2 – 5, 2018! Next year, there will only be one family camp instead of two, and spots fill up fast. Registration will be open before you know it, so check our website for updates.
